Meet Dr. Swanson

Dr. Bryan Swanson

Dr. Swanson was raised in Federal Way, Washington and attended Decatur High School. It was during these high school years that he initially decided to go to dental school in order to become an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. After high school, his education continued at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he studied Biology. After his undergraduate studies, Dr. Swanson attended dental school at the University of Washington. During dental school, he was a member of the Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (R.I.D.E.) program, which is a specific educational track of the University of Washington School of Dentistry with a mission to train dentists to meet the needs of rural and underserved populations in the state and region. This gave him the opportunity to train at a community dental clinic in Wenatchee, Washington during his final year of dental school.
Immediately after dental school, Dr. Swanson entered a four-year training program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California San Francisco – Fresno medical education campus in Fresno, California. This training included the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery including treatment of cleft and craniofacial conditions, malignant and benign tumors of the head and neck, facial and jaw reconstruction, facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, dental implant reconstruction, and office anesthesia and general anesthesia. During his residency training, he developed an interest and passion for cleft and craniofacial surgery and decided to pursue additional training.

After residency, he began his subspecialty fellowship training in pediatric craniomaxillofacial surgery at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida. Craniomaxillofacial surgery involves surgery of the skull (cranio), jaws (maxillo) and face (facial). During his fellowship training, he received extensive training and experience with all aspects of cleft lip and palate care, skull reconstruction, orthognathic surgery, and treatment of pediatric cysts, tumors, and lesions. He is a participating member of the cleft and craniofacial team at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington.

Dr. Swanson enjoys spending time with his wife, Liz, and his three children. As a family, they enjoy hiking, music, reading, and sports.
